# AI Website Template Gassenweise

> The website for city breaks in small groups, with a flat in the neighbourhood and three walks per city.

Gassenweise is a complete template for small city break operators, with 23 pages. At its heart is bringing a city into focus. On the home page every city first appears softly blurred. Choosing one lifts the veil, and price, train time, three neighbourhoods and coordinates change with it. On every city page a sharp window follows the pointer over the soft image. The second pillar is eighteen neighbourhood walks with distance, duration, five stops and an elevation profile in metres. Plus six city pages from one route with the area you stay in, the week by the clock, the host and nine dates, a city finder with three questions and a ranking, a comparison table, 54 dates with a filter, a price calculator with season, train and deposit, a floor plan to tap, train times from Cologne, local times in the footer, an office status, six journal articles, eight people as initials and legal pages as a guide for tour operators.

## FAQ

**What does bringing a city into focus mean?**

It is the signature of the template. On the home page every city first appears softly blurred, choosing one lifts the veil, and country, price, train time, three neighbourhoods and coordinates change with it. The choice works by click and with the arrow keys, and a sentence for screen readers says which city is in focus. On every city page a gold framed sharp window follows the pointer over the soft city image. With reduced motion the city is in focus at once, and without JavaScript all six cities stand in focus one below the other.

**Where do the elevation profiles of the walks come from?**

Each of the eighteen walks has five stops with a height in src/data/site.ts. Strecke.astro draws the line and contour lines in metres above the lowest point of the walk, in steps of 5, 10 or 25 metres. Flat walks stay flat, Graça and Alfama drop 102 metres to the river. The heights are estimated, and that is written under every profile. On phones a list with metres comes with it.

**How does the city finder work?**

Three questions with nothing preselected, how you want to arrive, how the days should feel and what the evening should be, with three answers each. After every answer the six cities reorder themselves with points, the best match stands first, and the suggestion names the reason. Without JavaScript the page shows a list of which city suits whom.

**How does the price calculator work?**

The base price of the city per person, for two sharing an apartment or alone, plus a €90 seasonal surcharge from May to September and, if wanted, a €35 service fee when Gassenweise books the train. Tourist tax is included in the price, and the 20% deposit is shown below. It starts at two guests in Paris outside the season, so €2,580, and that figure stands without scripts too. The base prices of the six cities lie between €1,180 and €1,390 for two.

**How do the dates and the date filter work?**

Every city has nine weeks from Sunday to Friday, 54 dates in all from March to October with free places and price. The filter shows one city or all of them and can be preselected by address, for example with ?stadt=kopenhagen. A click on a date on the city page prefills the enquiry with city and week. Without JavaScript all 54 dates are shown.

**How is Gassenweise different from Kehrwelt and Wegwild?**

Kehrwelt sells cycling holidays without flying, on the bike by day along coasts and islands, in the big city of the region in the evening. Wegwild leads small groups on tours through rock, forest and water. Gassenweise stays a whole week in one city, on foot, in an apartment in a residential neighbourhood and with a host who lives there.

**Does Gassenweise work for holiday lets or a travel magazine too?**

Not really. If you only let accommodation, take Lauschgrat for cabins and holiday homes or Funkenmoos for glamping. If you write about travel without selling it, take Kartensaum. Gassenweise is built for operators who sell accommodation, guided walks and dates as one trip.

**Is a week with apartment and walks a package holiday?**

Usually yes, and the template treats it that way. How we travel, Dates and Contact mention the information form, the insolvency certificate before the first payment, the minimum number of guests and the cancellation scale, and the legal notice has a section on the tour operator with protection of customer payments under §§ 651a ff. BGB. Have your travel terms checked before going live, these notes are not legal advice.

**Are tourist tax and holiday let rules prepared?**

Yes, as samples. All prices list tourist tax as included, and the Where you stay page explains that in Lisbon and Rome every flat is registered as a holiday let and in the other cities the owner lives in it herself, within the night limit of her city. You check the real rules of your cities before going live.

**Can guests book directly on the site?**

No, there is no booking system built in. The site collects enquiries, says it holds a place for seven days and then sends the information form, travel terms and offer. If you use a booking system, your AI puts its link on dates and buttons and adds it to the privacy policy and consent.

**What happens with an enquiry through the form?**

The contact form preselects city and date when the guest comes from a city page or a date, checks name, email and consent and marks errors at the field, and the message disappears while typing. Afterwards a confirmation says plainly that the template sends nothing yet. Contact and the Neighbourhood Letter use method="post", and your AI sets up the sending.

**How do I add a new city?**

With an entry in staedte in src/data/site.ts, with country, prices, train time, three neighbourhoods with stops and heights, the area you stay in, host and dates. From that come the city page, the city choice, comparison table, date list and footer. The photo goes to src/assets/images, a blurred version to src/assets/weich, the alt text to src/data/alt.ts and the city finder points to stadtFinder in src/data/seiten.ts.

**Does it work for walking tours without accommodation too?**

Yes, with some rebuilding. Your AI removes Where you stay, the floor plan and the apartment points, turns the weeks into single dates and keeps the city choice, walks with elevation profiles, hosts, city finder and journal. For an operator with one single city, the city page becomes the home page.

**Do the dates and years go stale?**

The dates sit as a catalogue in src/data/site.ts and carry their year only in the data, no heading names it. The footer year, the hosts’ years in their city and their average are worked out at build time from the build date. For the next season your AI swaps the dates.

**Where do the train times come from?**

They are the fastest usual connections from Cologne by the 2026 timetable, marked as samples, from 2 hrs 40 min to Amsterdam up to two days to Lisbon. The home page shows them as bars, Rome runs overnight, and for Lisbon the page openly recommends flying. You change the departure city and times in site.ts.

**Does the site work without JavaScript?**

Yes. Every heading and every text is there without scripts. The city choice becomes a list of all six cities in focus, the city finder an overview of which city suits whom, the focus window shows the whole image sharp, the date filter all 54 dates, the price calculator its starting value, the floor plan every room text, accordions stand open, the local times in the footer say honestly “same time as Cologne”, and the menu on phones opens.

**Are the names, prices and people real?**

No. The business, founders, hosts, prices, dates, ratings and voices are invented, and the footer of every page says so. Cities, neighbourhoods, squares, markets and stations are real places, the businesses in them are not. The address in Cologne-Ehrenfeld is a sample, and the phone number comes from the block the German Federal Network Agency keeps free for media.

**Can I keep the photos?**

The 62 photos come from Pexels under the Pexels licence, none of them made with AI. Almost every one has a blurred version for the signature, made from the same photo. People appear only from behind, as hands or small in a harbour pool, and no face is recognisable. src/data/bildnachweis.json and the legal notice name the photographer and source for every image.

**Why are the hosts shown without photos?**

Because no stock photo should stand beside a real name. Founders and hosts appear as initial plaques with city, years and profession, the hosts also with a picture from their neighbourhood. The note beside them says that your own photos belong in that place. Guest voices have no faces and are marked as sample voices.

**Does the site load anything from third party servers?**

No. The Geist typeface lives in public/fonts/, the photos in the project, and the logo mark, profiles and floor plan are drawn. In the browser runs one script of its own without a library, about 6 KB gzip. The cookie dialog writes the choice to the dataLayer, and statistics and marketing are tied to no service.

**Are search engines and share images prepared?**

Yes. Every page has its own title, description and breadcrumbs, plus a TravelAgency schema, a TouristTrip per city with one offer per date, Blog and BlogPosting in the journal and FAQPage wherever questions appear. Astro builds the share images at 1200 by 630 pixels from a photo of each page. Legal notice, privacy and 404 are set to noindex and left out of the sitemap.

**Which form of address does the template use?**

Informal you throughout, and the operator speaks as we. The sentences of the scripts live in src/data/texte.ts, the openings of all pages in src/data/heros.ts, fixed page sentences in src/data/seiten.ts and the content in src/data/site.ts and journal.ts. Your AI switches to a formal address if your business prefers it.

**Is the site included in English too?**

Yes. In the English package the whole website is in English, with an English knowledge layer and English skills. Scripts format numbers, euros and dates in the language of the page.

**Where can I host the site?**

Anywhere that serves static files. Astro builds the site into a folder of finished HTML that you upload to your host. Before that your AI sets your own domain in astro.config.mjs and robots.txt, and the website derives every other address from it.

**Do I own the template?**

Yes. Pay once, yours forever, for your own projects and client projects. You get the complete source code without watermarks.

**Do I need to know how to code?**

No. You tell your AI in the project folder what should change, and it finds the place through CLAUDE.md and the seven skills. If you want to edit by hand, cities, neighbourhoods, prices and dates are in src/data/site.ts and the articles in src/data/journal.ts.
