Versions and updates

Every release of the kit carries a version number, and so does every component. You see what changed and update on your terms.

On this page

Version numbers#

The kit is at version 1.1.4. Two levels carry a number in the pattern major, minor, patch. The kit version counts releases, and every component has a version of its own. The kit version follows the biggest change in a release.

StepExampleWhat it does
patch1.0.0 → 1.0.1A fix, the props stay the same. Update any time.
minor1.0.0 → 1.1.0Something new, such as a variant or an optional prop. Your code keeps working.
major1.0.0 → 2.0.0A prop is renamed or required, or a variant is gone. Read the changelog first.

A new component starts at 1.0.0. On the site, new components and variants carry the note New, changed ones Updated, each with the kit version.

Changelog#

Every release is listed with its date and one sentence per change in the changelog, newest first.

See what is new#

aiw outdated compares the components of your project with the registry. For each one you see the old and new version, the step and the sentence from the changelog. Files you changed yourself are named separately.

Update#

aiw update brings every component up to date, or only the ones you name. It shows lines added and removed per file, and new dependencies come along.

aiw update
aiw update hero faq --dry-run
aiw update hero --force

Add the new components of a release as always with aiw add, for example aiw add @ai-website/multi-step-form. aiw update brings the ones you have up to date.

Lockfile#

aiw add writes ui-kit.lock.json into your project. For each component it records the version, a hash of its content, the source, the date and the hash of every file it wrote. That is how aiw outdated and aiw update tell your own changes apart. Commit the file with your project.

ui-kit.lock.json

      "files": { "src/components/ui/hero.tsx": "c5da10fc63f443ab" }
    }
  }
}

Every option is listed under aiw outdated and aiw update.
