AI Website Cost, What Each Route Really Costs Over Three Years

An AI website costs about $120 to $1,440 over three years with an AI website builder, €99 plus hosting and an AI tool with a template, and $1,800 to $44,000 with a freelancer or an agency. The monthly price says little. What counts is the three-year total and what you still own at the end.

An AI website costs from about $120 to $1,440 over three years with an AI builder and from €99 plus running costs with a template edited by your own AI tool. A freelancer starts around $1,800 over three years, an agency around $6,800. The deciding question is not the monthly price but what you still own when you stop paying.

We sell one of the routes in this comparison, so we have tried to be strict with the others and honest about our own. Every competitor price below was read on the provider’s pricing page or, where the page did not show it, cross-checked in several current reviews.

How we calculated

All prices are list prices from 31 October 2026, in the currency the provider charges in. Most AI builders charge in US dollars. Our own prices are in euros because we invoice in euros.

For each builder we took the cheapest plan that lets you use your own domain and the next plan up, billed yearly where that is offered. Three years means 36 months. Taxes are not included, because they depend on where you live. Domains from the second year on are left out of the builder totals, since they cost roughly the same on every route.

Prices change often in this market, and introductory offers change even more often. Treat the table as a snapshot and check the provider’s page before you buy.

The three-year table, explained

The table at the top has eleven routes. They fall into four groups, and each group fails in a different way.

AI website builders

Wix, Hostinger, Framer, Durable and 10Web generate a first draft from a few sentences and then host the site for you.

Wix charges $17 a month for Light and $29 for Core, billed yearly, which comes to about $610 to $1,040 over three years. Framer charges per site, $10 a month for Basic with up to 30 pages and $30 for Pro. Durable’s Launch plan costs $22 to $25 a month depending on billing and includes a domain worth up to $20.

Hostinger looks cheapest by far. Its Website Builder costs $2.49 a month, but only if you pay 48 months up front, about $120. After that the renewal price is $10.99 a month, more than four times as much. 10Web shows $10 a month for AI Starter billed yearly, and its own page lists a regular price of roughly twice that, so the three-year cost lands between about $360 and $720 depending on what you pay after the first term.

App builders with AI credits

Base44 and Lovable are built for apps with logins, databases and dashboards, and many people use them for websites too.

Base44 costs $16 a month for Starter, the first plan that can connect a domain, and $40 for Builder, billed yearly. Starter includes 100 message credits a month, Builder 250. Lovable’s Pro plan costs $25 a month, around $21 billed yearly according to several current reviews, with a monthly credit allowance.

Credits are the cost you cannot see in advance. Every change you ask for uses some of them, and a website you keep improving uses more than one you build once. For a brochure site with five pages, you pay for app capabilities you rarely need. Our guide to Lovable alternatives goes into that in detail.

Template plus AI tool

With this route you buy a finished website once, open it in an AI coding tool and change it by describing what you want. Our templates cost €99 once, and the code is yours.

The running costs are hosting, a domain and the AI tool. A static site runs on the free tiers of hosts like Netlify or Cloudflare Pages, or on shared hosting for a few dollars a month. A domain costs about $10 to $20 a year. For the AI tool, Claude Pro costs $20 a month or $17 billed yearly, Cursor starts at $8, and GitHub Copilot and Cursor both have free tiers.

That gives a range. If you subscribe to an AI tool for three months while you build and use free hosting, you pay €99 plus about $90 over three years. If you keep a $20 subscription for all 36 months and pay $5 a month for hosting, it is €99 plus about $960. Many people already pay for an AI subscription for other work, which moves them towards the lower end.

Done for you, freelancer and agency

If you do not want to build at all, someone else does it. Our AI Website Service costs €899. You pick a template, we build in your content, set up domain and hosting with your own provider and take you live, with four weeks of support afterwards. Hosting and domain at your provider usually run €5 to €15 a month, which gives €1,080 to €1,440 over three years.

Freelancers charge around $1,500 to $8,000 for a small business site, agencies around $5,000 to $35,000, depending on scope and region. Add maintenance of roughly $100 to $400 a year for a freelancer and $600 to $3,000 for an agency, and you arrive at the three-year totals in the table. Our guide to website design cost breaks those quotes down line by line.

The costs the price page leaves out

Four items move the real cost far away from the advertised one.

  1. Renewal prices. Introductory prices often require long prepayment and then jump. Hostinger’s renewal is more than four times its entry price.
  2. Credits. AI builders meter changes. Once the monthly allowance is used up, you wait or buy more.
  3. Limits. Page limits, editor seats, bandwidth and the number of sites per plan push you into the next tier as the site grows. Framer’s Basic plan, for example, stops at 30 pages.
  4. The first-year domain. Several builders include a domain for the first year only. After that you pay for it separately.

None of this is hidden in a dishonest sense. It is all on the pricing pages. It is just not in the large number at the top.

What you own at the end

This is the column most comparisons leave out, and over three years it matters more than the price.

With a hosted builder like Wix, Hostinger, Framer or Durable, the site lives on the platform. If you stop paying, it goes offline or falls back to a free address, and there is no code to take elsewhere. 10Web is built on WordPress, so the site can move to another host. Lovable and Base44 can hand over the generated code through GitHub, on Base44 from the Builder plan.

With a template, a freelancer or an agency, you get files. They run on any hosting, and you can change provider whenever you like. With freelancers and agencies, check that the contract actually transfers the rights. With our templates it is simple. You pay once, and it is yours forever.

Which route fits which budget

A simple decision rule, based on what we see with small businesses.

  • One page, under $150, as fast as possible. Hostinger for the 48-month term, or Framer Basic if design matters more to you.
  • An app with logins or a database. Lovable or Base44. That is what they are built for, and the credits are worth it there.
  • A business site with several pages that you keep developing. A template plus an AI tool. The lowest three-year cost for a site you own, and every change is a sentence to your AI tool.
  • No time to build at all. The AI Website Service, or a freelancer if you need custom features.
  • The website is a central sales channel with custom requirements. An agency. The higher price buys strategy, custom design and accountability.

If you are still unsure whether a builder or a template suits you better, our comparison of template vs website builder goes through it with examples.

Where our templates fit

Our AI website templates are 94 finished industry websites in 15 categories, from law firms to cafés. Each one comes with a guideline file for the AI, a knowledge folder with writing style, SEO plan and build plan, and seven Skills. You adapt the whole site by chatting with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf or another AI coding tool.

The honest limits are part of the price. There is no booking engine and no drag and drop editor, and you need an AI coding tool and a hosting account. If that sounds like too much, the service does it for you. And because a cheap website that nobody finds is not cheap, our guide on whether an AI website is good for SEO is the next thing to read.

Frequently asked questions

With an AI website builder, from about $10 to $40 a month for a plan with your own domain, billed yearly. With a template you pay once and then only hosting and a domain, from nothing to about $5 a month for hosting a static site and $10 to $20 a year for the domain, plus an AI tool if you do not have one yet.

In the first year, almost always. A builder costs a few hundred dollars a year, a freelancer starts at around $1,500. Over many years the gap narrows, because the subscription never ends, and at the end the designer's site is yours while the builder site stays on the platform.

The Pro plan costs $25 a month, around $21 billed yearly, and includes a monthly allowance of credits for changes. That is about $760 to $900 over three years. If you change a lot, you use up credits faster and pay for more. Lovable is built for apps with logins and databases, which a brochure site rarely needs.

Renewal prices that are several times the introductory price, a domain that is only free in the first year, AI credits that run out, page limits on the cheaper plans and extra fees for more editors. Read the renewal price and the plan limits before you compare monthly figures.

Not necessarily. GitHub Copilot and Cursor both have free tiers, Cursor's paid plans start at $8 a month and Claude Pro costs $20 a month. Most people pay for one or two months while they build, and many already have a subscription they also use for other work.

With a hosted builder the site goes offline or falls back to a free address, and the code does not come with you. With a template the files are on your computer and run on any hosting, so stopping an AI subscription changes nothing about the site that is live.
