The best AI website builder in 2026 is Wix for most small businesses, Hostinger for the smallest budget, Framer or Webflow for designers and Lovable for apps. None of them is the right answer if you want to own your site. For that, a finished template plus an AI coding tool is the stronger route.

Most comparisons for this query rank builders by how fast the first draft appears. That is the least important number, since every tool here produces something presentable in minutes. What decides whether you are still happy in two years is what the site costs over time, whether you can take it with you, and how well you can change it once the first draft is done.

How we compared

Five criteria, in this order.

  • Price over three years. Introductory offers, renewal prices and per-site billing, not only the headline number.
  • Code ownership and export. Can you take the site to another host, or does it only exist on the vendor’s servers?
  • SEO output. What a search engine or an AI assistant receives when it visits the page.
  • Editing by chat. Whether the AI keeps helping after the first draft or only writes it.
  • Lock-in. What happens the day you stop paying.

We checked prices on 31 October 2026 on the vendors’ own pages and in recent reviews. Where sources disagreed, we write “around”. We earn nothing from any link here. Our own product is in the table and clearly marked, so weigh that entry with that in mind.

The ten builders in detail

1. Wix AI

Wix creates a site from a single prompt and then lets you switch between the AI and drag and drop. On top come apps for bookings, shops, events and memberships. Plans start at around $17 a month on yearly billing for Light, with Core at around $29 and Business at around $39.

Strong. The widest feature set on this list and an editor anyone can use. SEO basics are well covered.

Weak. Wix’s own help center says sites have to be hosted on Wix servers. If you leave, you rebuild. Prices are per site, and features such as selling online start on the higher plans.

2. Hostinger AI Website Builder

Hostinger’s builder has two modes in every plan, manual drag and drop and an agentic mode where you prompt the changes. The Premium plan costs $2.49 a month on a 48-month term, paid upfront, and renews at $10.99 a month.

Strong. The cheapest serious start, with hosting, domain options and email under one roof.

Weak. The low price only holds for the first term. We found no way to export the builder site to another host, and design freedom is narrower than with Wix or Framer.

3. Framer AI

Framer began as a design tool and builds sites that look like a design studio made them. Its AI Agents draft and change pages, with 1,000 credits a month on Basic and 3,000 on Pro. Basic costs $10 a month per site on yearly billing, Pro $30.

Strong. The most polished visual results here, fast hosting and good SEO basics.

Weak. There is no native code export, the site depends on Framer’s hosting. Every further site and every extra editor seat costs again.

4. Durable

Durable is built for one-person businesses that want a site in an afternoon. It generates the pages from a few answers and adds tools for running a small business around them. Paid plans start at around $22 a month, with the larger plan at around $41 to $49.

Strong. Very fast and very simple. If the website is a business card, it does the job.

Weak. Little room for depth such as service pages, guides or calculators, and the site stays on Durable. The AI helps with edits, but most work happens in the editor.

5. 10Web

10Web uses AI to build a WordPress site and hosts it. AI Starter costs $10 a month on yearly billing for one site, Premium $15 for two. You get the full WordPress admin and SFTP access.

Strong. The best ownership among the classic builders. Because it is WordPress, standard migration tools move the site to any WordPress host.

Weak. You take on WordPress upkeep with themes, plugins and updates. Speed and SEO depend on how you configure it.

6. Base44

Base44, owned by Wix since 2025, builds apps from a chat, with database, logins and integrations. Starter costs $16 a month on yearly billing, and GitHub integration starts on the Builder plan at $40.

Strong. If you need an app with user accounts and data, it gets you there without a developer.

Weak. For a business website it is more tool than you need. Exported code depends on Base44’s backend, and reviews disagree on how much of it runs elsewhere. It is built as an app first, so check what a search engine receives before you rely on it for search traffic.

7. Lovable

Lovable turns a chat into a full web app. Pro costs around $25 a month for 100 credits, and every change uses credits. Paid plans sync the project to a new GitHub repository, offer a ZIP download and connect your own domain. According to Lovable’s documentation, apps created since 13 May 2026 render on the server, while older projects render in the browser and serve pre-rendered copies to search engines.

Strong. Real code you can take with you, and the strongest chat building on this list.

Weak. Credits make the monthly cost hard to predict, and a marketing site from one prompt still needs a lot of direction. More options are in our list of Lovable alternatives.

8. Webflow AI

Webflow is the most powerful visual builder here, with AI features that run on credits since its 2026 pricing change. Site plans start at around $15 a month.

Strong. Full control over design, semantics and SEO, which agencies value.

Weak. A real learning curve, and many owners end up hiring a Webflow designer. Webflow’s help center says code export needs a paid workspace plan, and CMS, user accounts and shop content are not included in the export.

9. Squarespace Blueprint

Blueprint is Squarespace’s guided AI setup. You answer questions, choose a style and get a finished site, and every plan includes AI tools with a credit allowance. Plans start at around $16 to $19 a month on yearly billing.

Strong. Beautiful defaults and a calm editor. Portfolios and small service sites look good quickly.

Weak. The AI mostly helps at the start. Only part of the content can be exported, the design stays on Squarespace.

10. Jimdo Dolphin

Jimdo from Hamburg is a fixture in German-speaking markets. Dolphin asks a few questions and builds the site from them. Paid plans start at around €11 a month, with a tier that adds a generator for German legal pages.

Strong. The easiest start on this list, with help on the legal pages German sites require.

Weak. Limited design and depth, and the site stays on Jimdo.

What three years really cost

The headline price is rarely what you pay. Over 36 months, Wix Light comes to around $612 and Framer Basic to $360 per site. Lovable Pro at a steady $25 a month adds up to $900, more if you buy extra credits. Hostinger is the exception with around $120 upfront for four years, after which the renewal price applies.

A template with its own code costs €99 once plus around $30 to $80 a year for hosting and domain. Over three years that is usually the cheapest route, and the site is still yours on the day you stop paying anyone. The full breakdown is in our guide to AI website cost.

When a template plus an AI coding tool is the better route

A builder generates a first draft from nothing. A template starts from a finished site and lets your AI tool adapt it. That route wins in five situations.

  • You want to own the code. The whole project is a folder on your computer and runs on any hosting.
  • Your industry needs depth. Calculators, 20 or more pages, guides and contact flows are already built. Our AI website examples show eighteen of them, from a deadline calculator for law firms to a live board for plumbers.
  • You care about search and AI answers. The pages are static HTML, which search engines and AI assistants read directly. More in our guide to whether an AI website is good for SEO.
  • You want the AI to stay consistent. Each of our AI website templates ships with a guideline file, a knowledge folder with writing style, SEO plan and build plan, and seven Skills. That keeps tone and design intact across twenty pages.
  • You already use an AI coding tool. It works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf and others.

The honest limits are just as clear. There is no drag and drop editor and no booking engine, and you need an AI coding tool, a hosting account and two terminal commands. What we mean by an AI website is explained in our main guide, and the longer comparison of both routes is in template vs website builder.

When a builder is the better choice

A builder is the right call when you want to be online today and never want to open a terminal. It also wins when bookings, a shop or memberships have to run inside the platform, where Wix and Squarespace are strong. If you are building an app with logins and a database rather than a website, Lovable or Base44 are made for that. If a designer runs the site, Framer or Webflow give them the control they expect. And if the first year’s budget is close to zero, Hostinger is hard to beat.

Our decision rule

Ask yourself one question. Would it hurt to lose the site on the day you stop paying? If yes, choose a route where you keep the code, Lovable for apps or a template for a business website. If not, and you would rather pay monthly than ever touch a file, choose the builder that fits your industry best and enjoy the convenience. If you would rather have neither, our AI Website Service builds the site for you.

Frequently asked questions

For most small businesses that want to click rather than code, Wix is the safest all-rounder and Hostinger the cheapest start. Designers get the most out of Framer or Webflow. If you want an app with logins, Lovable is the strongest of the chat builders. If you want to own the finished site, a template you adapt with an AI coding tool beats all of them.

Lovable syncs the full project to GitHub and offers a ZIP download on paid plans. 10Web is WordPress, so standard migration tools work. Webflow exports HTML, CSS and JavaScript on paid workspace plans, but CMS content stays behind. Base44 exports the front end from its Builder plan. Wix, Hostinger, Framer, Durable and Jimdo keep the site on their own servers.

Wix has the larger feature set, more apps for bookings and shops, and the more flexible editor. Hostinger is much cheaper in the first years, from $2.49 a month on a 48-month term, but renews at around $10.99. Neither lets you take the site with you.

The established builders cover the basics such as titles, descriptions, sitemaps and clean addresses. The weak point is content, because a site generated from one prompt sounds like every other one. App builders such as Lovable now render new projects on the server, but older projects ran in the browser, so check what a search engine actually receives.

In Lovable, Base44 and Hostinger's agentic mode, yes, every change is a prompt. Wix and Framer combine chat with a visual editor. Squarespace and Jimdo use AI mainly for the first draft. A template with its own code works with any AI coding tool, for as long as you keep the project.

The builders in this comparison all charge monthly or yearly. The route with a single payment is a finished template with its own code, which you adapt with an AI coding tool and host wherever you like. You pay once for the template and around $30 to $80 a year for hosting and domain.
