What the Best Law Firm Websites Do Right (15 Patterns)
We looked at what the strongest law firm websites have in common rather than which ones look nicest. Fifteen patterns, each one testable on your own site in under a minute.
Most articles about law firm websites show fifteen screenshots and call the nice-looking ones the best. That is not useful for two reasons: a screenshot ages within months, and looking good is not the same as generating enquiries.
So this is the other version. Fifteen patterns that the strongest firm websites share, each one testable against your own site right now.
Structure
1. One page per practice area. The single highest-impact pattern. Clients search for their problem, not for your firm. A page listing eight areas as bullet points competes for nothing, because a search engine can only rank a page that is actually about one thing.
2. The practice page opens with the client’s situation, not the firm’s expertise. “You have received a dismissal notice” outperforms “We advise in employment law” because the first sentence tells the visitor they are in the right place.
3. Deadlines appear early. In employment, criminal and immigration matters, a stated deadline is the strongest reason anyone picks up the phone. Firms that bury it under a description of their approach lose the enquiry to the firm that led with it.
4. Every practice page ends with a way to make contact. Not only the contact page. Someone convinced on the employment page should not have to navigate anywhere.
5. A profile page per admitted lawyer. With a real photograph, year of admission, focus areas and, where relevant, publications. Clients instruct people.
Reachability
6. The phone number is tappable without scrolling on a phone. This is worth checking right now on your own site. A large share of legal searches happen on mobile, often outside office hours.
7. Opening hours are stated honestly. “Monday to Friday, 8 to 18, and outside those hours in custody matters” builds more trust than an unqualified promise of constant availability.
8. There is a stated response time. “We reply within one working day” is a small sentence that removes a large uncertainty.
9. The contact form asks for little. Name, contact detail, matter in one field. Every additional required field reduces completions, and a distressed person is not filling in a matter reference.
Credibility
10. Real photographs, not stock imagery. Scales, gavels and columns are the visual equivalent of saying nothing. A plain photograph of the actual office outperforms them.
11. Case descriptions instead of success rates. Describing how a matter proceeded is informative and, in most bar regimes, safe. Publishing outcome statistics is neither.
12. The regulatory information is complete and easy to find. Bar association, professional rules with their source, indemnity insurer. Beyond being required, it signals that the firm takes its obligations seriously.
Language
13. Legal terms are explained on first use. The client does not know what a Kündigungsschutzklage is procedurally. Firms that explain rank better and convert better, because explanations answer the questions people actually search for.
14. Fees are addressed, not hidden. Few firms can publish fixed prices, but every firm can explain how billing works and what an initial consultation costs. Silence on fees is a common reason for abandoning an enquiry.
15. Sentences are short. Legal writing habits do not transfer to a website. The reader is stressed and scanning.
How to use this
Open your own site on a phone and go through the list. Most firms score somewhere between six and nine. The gaps are usually in the same three places: no separate practice pages, no deadline mentioned, and fees not addressed at all.
Fixing those three is worth more than a redesign.

Frequently asked questions
Because a screenshot ages within months and tells you nothing about why something works. A pattern you can test against your own site is useful for years. Every point below can be checked in under a minute.
A separate page per practice area. Everything else is optimisation. Without it, a firm competes for nothing specific and search engines have nothing to rank.
Most of them. A solo practitioner with two focus areas needs two practice pages, one profile and a reachable phone number. The patterns scale down more easily than they scale up.
Practice pages roughly once a year, so the legal position stays current. Profiles whenever someone joins or gains a qualification. Everything else can sit for years without harm.
