  • Free, components under MIT

What Codex does with the UI Kit

Codex by OpenAI connects to the UI Kit with one command. codex mcp add writes the entry into config.toml, and the Codex CLI, the IDE extension and the Codex app read it from there, so you set it up once for all three.

Codex then plans a website with the blueprints of the kit, picks the components that fit, reads their props and code and writes the pages into your project. At the end it reviews the result against the checklist for your page type.

The server only reads and needs no account. For tools that write, such as installing components straight into the project, add the local server of the aiw CLI next to it.

  • Plans, writes and runs the build of your project in one session
  • Fetches source files with get_component_code, in parts for long ones
  • Works with the same entry in the terminal, the editor and the app

Setup

Connect Codex in 3 steps

The pictures show where to click. Menu names can shift a little with new versions, the way stays the same.

  1. Step 1, Add the server

Run the command once. It writes the entry into ~/.codex/config.toml.

  2. Step 2, Or edit config.toml

Two lines in ~/.codex/config.toml do the same. The CLI, the IDE extension and the app all read this file.

  3. Step 3, Check the list

codex mcp list shows the server. In a session /mcp lists its tools.

Config

Ready to copy

codex mcp list shows the server as enabled, and /mcp in a session lists its 14 tools.

codex mcp add ai-website-ui-kit --url https://ai-website.com/mcp

Example prompts

Try it in Codex

Copy a prompt, put in your own facts and send it. Good prompts name the goal, the content and the language.

Build a landing page with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Build a landing page for Nordlicht Yoga, a small studio in Bremen that starts a beginner course in January. The goal is sign ups for a free trial class. Plan the sections first, then use components and variants of the kit, write all copy in English and check the page with review_page at the end.

Flow

Relaunch a whole website with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Plan a relaunch of the website of Tischlerei Hansen, a carpenter in Kiel with eight people. Pages for home, services, projects, about and contact. Use plan_website with the blueprint for trades, give every page a title and description, pick components and variants for each section and tell me the install command. Copy in English.

Flow

Redesign one section with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Our pricing section has three plans in plain boxes and few people click. Compare the variants of the pricing component, pick the one that fits a monthly and yearly plan best, keep our prices and texts and give me the new code. Tell me why you chose it.

When it sticks

Update Codex to a current version, or write the two lines into config.toml by hand.
The IDE extension does not see the server
The extension reads ~/.codex/config.toml at start. Reload the editor window once.

FAQ

Questions about Codex

Overview of the MCP server
Is Codex the same as ChatGPT?

Both come from OpenAI. Codex is the coding agent that writes into your project, ChatGPT is the chat. Both use the same server.

Can the server write files into my project?

The public server only reads. Your assistant writes the files itself, or you add the local server of the aiw CLI with npx -y ai-website mcp, which installs components with your approval.

Does the server see my code or my chats?

No. Your assistant only sends the question it asks the kit, such as a search for a pricing section. The server answers and stores nothing from the request.

What does the MCP server cost?

Nothing. The server, the components and the CLI are free, the code is under the MIT license. You pay only for the AI assistant you already use.
