What Cursor does with the UI Kit

Cursor installs the MCP server of the UI Kit with one click. The button below opens Cursor with the entry filled in, you confirm, and the agent in the chat can search 350 components, read their code and plan the pages of your project.

In the editor the kit pays off twice. The agent writes components it knows down to every prop, and it takes the plan, the copy hints and the review checklist straight into the files of your project, page by page.

The server only reads and needs no key. When you want the agent to install components into the project by itself, add the local server of the aiw CLI as a second entry, it writes with your approval.

Setup

Connect Cursor in 3 steps

The pictures show where to click. Menu names can shift a little with new versions, the way stays the same.

  1. Step 1, Click Add to Cursor

    The button opens Cursor with the server filled in. Confirm with Install, and the entry is saved for every project.

  2. Step 2, Or write the file

    Put the entry into ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or into .cursor/mcp.json for one project.

  3. Step 3, See the green dot

    Under Settings, MCP the server shows a green dot and its tools. The agent in the chat now uses them on its own.

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Build a landing page for Nordlicht Yoga, a small studio in Bremen that starts a beginner course in January. The goal is sign ups for a free trial class. Plan the sections first, then use components and variants of the kit, write all copy in English and check the page with review_page at the end.

Tips

  • Add the local server of the aiw CLI as a second entry, then the agent installs components with aiw_add.
  • Put “use the UI Kit” into your project rules, the agent then asks the kit before it writes markup.
  • Use agent mode, the plain chat does not call MCP tools.

When it sticks

The install button does nothing
The link needs the Cursor app on this computer. Without it, copy the JSON into ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
The dot stays red
Check that the key is url and the address ends in /mcp without a slash. Save the file and toggle the server off and on.
The agent ignores the tools
Make sure the chat is in agent mode and the tools of the server are enabled under Settings, MCP.

Questions about Cursor

Overview of the MCP server
Global or per project?

Both work. ~/.cursor/mcp.json makes the kit available everywhere, .cursor/mcp.json only in one project and travels with its repository.

Can the server write files into my project?

The public server only reads. Your assistant writes the files itself, or you add the local server of the aiw CLI with npx -y ai-website mcp, which installs components with your approval.

Does the server see my code or my chats?

No. Your assistant only sends the question it asks the kit, such as a search for a pricing section. The server answers and stores nothing from the request.

What does the MCP server cost?

Nothing. The server, the components and the CLI are free, the code is under the MIT license. You pay only for the AI assistant you already use.
