MCP server for WindsurfWindsurf · Editor with Cascade

Build websites with Windsurf over MCP

One entry in mcp_config.json, then refresh Cascade. Then your assistant builds with 350 components of the UI Kit.

Server address

  • Streamable HTTP, no sign in
  • 14 tools, all read only
  • Free, components under MIT

What Windsurf does with the UI Kit

Windsurf keeps its MCP servers in one file, mcp_config.json. One entry with the address of the UI Kit is enough, and Cascade can search 350 components, read their code, plan a website and review the pages it builds.

Cascade works in long, connected steps, and the kit gives each step solid ground. A plan with sections and copy hints first, then components it knows down to every prop, then a review of the finished page.

The server only reads and needs no account. Newer installs of Windsurf keep the file in a new folder, both places are listed below, so the entry lands where your version looks for it.

  • Runs plan, build and review as one connected flow
  • Fetches a blueprint for your kind of website with get_blueprint
  • Reads guides on copy, conversion and accessibility with get_guidelines

Setup

Connect Windsurf in 3 steps

The pictures show where to click. Menu names can shift a little with new versions, the way stays the same.

  1. Step 1, Open mcp_config.json

In Cascade open the MCP servers and choose to edit the configuration. The file sits in ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, on Windows in %APPDATA%\devin, in older installs in ~/.codeium/windsurf.

  2. Step 2, Add the server

Add the entry under mcpServers. Windsurf names the address serverUrl.

  3. Step 3, Refresh Cascade

Refresh the server list. The UI Kit appears with its tools, and Cascade uses them in its next run.

Config

Ready to copy

After a refresh the server list shows the UI Kit with 14 tools.

mcp_config.json

Example prompts

Try it in Windsurf

Copy a prompt, put in your own facts and send it. Good prompts name the goal, the content and the language.

Build a landing page with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Build a landing page for Nordlicht Yoga, a small studio in Bremen that starts a beginner course in January. The goal is sign ups for a free trial class. Plan the sections first, then use components and variants of the kit, write all copy in English and check the page with review_page at the end.

Flow

Relaunch a whole website with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Plan a relaunch of the website of Tischlerei Hansen, a carpenter in Kiel with eight people. Pages for home, services, projects, about and contact. Use plan_website with the blueprint for trades, give every page a title and description, pick components and variants for each section and tell me the install command. Copy in English.

Flow

Redesign one section with AI

Use the UI Kit by ai-website.com. Our pricing section has three plans in plain boxes and few people click. Compare the variants of the pricing component, pick the one that fits a monthly and yearly plan best, keep our prices and texts and give me the new code. Tell me why you chose it.

  • Use the prompt build_website as the first message, it walks Cascade through every step.

When it sticks

The server does not appear
Check which folder your version reads. Newer installs use ~/.config/devin, older ones ~/.codeium/windsurf.
The entry has url instead of serverUrl
Windsurf expects serverUrl for a remote server. Rename the key and refresh.

FAQ

Questions about Windsurf

Overview of the MCP server
What happened to the old Windsurf folder?

Older installs still read ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. The entry is the same in both places.

Can the server write files into my project?

The public server only reads. Your assistant writes the files itself, or you add the local server of the aiw CLI with npx -y ai-website mcp, which installs components with your approval.

Does the server see my code or my chats?

No. Your assistant only sends the question it asks the kit, such as a search for a pricing section. The server answers and stores nothing from the request.

What does the MCP server cost?

Nothing. The server, the components and the CLI are free, the code is under the MIT license. You pay only for the AI assistant you already use.
